City bound passengers were stuck on board city-bound trains for almost one hour this morning after a points failure on the Belgrave line.

Connex spokesman John Rees says the problem has been fixed, but trains on the line will be delayed due to backlog of services.

He says services will be back to normal by this afternoon's peak period.

"That's affected a lot of trains. Some [are] just running late, but some were delayed and caught in the section for up to 50 minutes," he said.

"We've made announcements on the trains but if you're delayed that long on a train and a busy one at that, it would have been very frustrating."
