There has been a rebound in monthly job advertisement figures.
The ANZ's index of internet and newspaper ads shows an increase of 3.1 per cent in April, after falls in the previous two months.
ANZ's deputy chief economist Tony Pearson, says that means job ads are now at their January levels, suggesting there has been a winding back in demand for labour.
"Businesses have become more cautious in seeking new workers," he said.
"Now, we attribute that to the increases in interest rates that we saw late last year and also this year, the uncertainty about the global outlook and of course the continued volatility on financial markets."
