MALAYSIA OFFERS TO HELP SET UP HALAL SUPERMARKET IN BANGLADESH

DHAKA, July 24 Asia Pulse - Malaysia has pledged to provide assistance to help set up a halal super market in Bangladesh.

"The super market will help develop the production of halal items in Bangladesh and at the same time boost Malaysian halal products here," secretary-general of Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development, Musa Mohammad, said at the opening of Halal Malaysia Week (HMW) 2008 here Wednesday.

Musa said the entrepreneurs from both countries could work together to set up the super market.

A total of 32 Malaysian halal manufacturers and over 80 members of Malaysian business community are participating in the HMW 2008.

Earlier, Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Abdul Malek Abdul Aziz, said Bangladesh and Malaysia could work together and explore cooperation in the halal sector.

"Being a Muslim country, Bangladesh ofers huge potentials in the halal sector which is yet to be fully exploited," he said.

Salauddin Kashem Khan, president of Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, sought Malaysian technical assistance in halal certification.
