Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/437d0c/global_market_revi) has announced the addition of the "Global Market Review of Vehicle Seating - New Updated Forecasts to 2016" report to their offering.
Since just-auto's last edition of vehicle seating was published in June 2008, the outlook for the automotive industry has significantly changed. As recently as the beginning of 2008, we were looking at a 'managed slowdown' for the global economy and the automotive industry was very much part of that. By the end of 2008, however, major companies were struggling to keep their heads above water in the face of collapsed automotive markets.
Given the current state of the industry, just-auto has completely revised its estimates and forecasts of the vehicle seating market volumes and values. This report now carries an addendum setting out our revised forecasts for vehicle seating based on latest forecasting analysis for passenger car vehicle assembly in North America, Western Europe and Japan from 2005 through to 2016.
In addition, and given the sheer volatility of the global economy at present, we have set out 'expected', 'best-case' and 'worst-case' scenario data applied to vehicle seating. On balance, we believe this will provide readers with a more realistic framework for our component forecasts. just-auto estimates that the European, North American, Japanese and Chinese front seating market volume totalled almost 106m units in 2007, and has the potential to reach 133m by 2014.
Although modern car seats are more comfortable and safer than ever before, flexibility, comfort and safety continue to be the main drivers of this business. OEMs are demanding greater differentiation in their seat designs, customers want more luxury such as cooling and heating, and ergonomists understand much more about what the human frame needs in order to be comfortable.
A great deal of work is also focused on different seat fabrics, creating more breathable or waterproof surfaces, and built-in fragrances are also being designed in a bid to increase feelings of well-being.
It's clear that interiors must appeal to all kinds of people. Not only is there the problem of defining comfort levels, but also cosmetic questions of colour and trim, the covering materials used, durability, use of child seats, headrests and overall seating arrangement.
This 2008 edition of the report provides an overview of the vehicle seating industry, and takes a look at the trends affecting the sector. It offers top level market fitment, volume and value forecasts through 2014, and includes exclusive interviews with executives at Intier Automotive Seating and Johnson Controls. The technical review discusses the latest innovations in seating, such as increased flexibility, and the use of renewable materials, plus we provide a concise profile for each of the major manufacturers.
Chapter 1: Introduction - Brief introduction to the report.
Chapter 2: The market - This extensive chapter looks at the latest trends in the market and includes comment from executives, such as Jacques Mauge, Faurecia's executive vice president of group customer development, in which he talks about the Premium Attitude concept car. The market players and their latest products are discussed and an interview with Guido Wolfs, senior product business manager at Johnson Controls International, is also included.
This chapter also takes a brief look at the emerging markets and shows market share for the major manufacturers of complete vehicle seating in Europe, North America and the world. Forecasts to 2014 predict how the market volume and value for front seating, and market value for front, rear and complete seating will evolve in Europe, Japan, China and North America from 2004 through 2014.
Chapter 3: Technical review - The car seat is one of the major safety elements for occupants. According to Bosch, the strength requirements that must be met by seats in a collision pertain to the seat frame (seat cushions and back rest), head restraint, seat adjustment mechanism and seat anchors. One component of active safety is seating comfort, says Bosch. Seats must be designed so that vehicle occupants are able to sit for long periods of time without becoming tired.
This chapter defines the elements of vehicle seating, and investigates the latest innovations in the area, like the use of renewable materials such as soy-based polyurethane for seating foam, active head restraints and developments in children's booster seats. Jeff Williams, group vice president and general manager, North America for Johnson Controls' automotive unit also discusses their 'Slim Seat' in an exclusive interview.
Chapter 4: Manufacturers - This chapter provides profiles of the major manufacturers, namely Faurecia, Intier, Johnson Controls, Lear and Tachi-S. Read about their customers, products, facilities, sales, and mergers and acquisitions.
