So what is IEMR's Forecast?
Total wireless subscribers in South Korea to reach 56.6 million in 2013
We forecast that the number of total mobile subscribers in South Korea
will increase from 45.6 million in 2008 to 56.6 million in 2013.
All operators will see their number of subscribers increase over the
next five years.
We expect that SK Telecom will continue to be the largest operator in
the country with 28.3 million subscribers in 2013.
Our model predicts that KTF will have 17.4 million subscribers and LG
Telecom will have 10.9 million subscribers by the end of 2013.
SK Telecom and KFT will be losing market shares to LG Telecom over the
next five years
We forecast that SK Telecom will continue to lead South Korea in
market shares, but its subscriber market share will decline from 50.5%
in 2008 to 50.0% in 2013.
KTF will also see its subscriber market share fall from 31.5% in 2008
to 30.8% in 2013.
On the other hand, we forecast that LG Telecom's share of total
subscribers will increase from 18.0% in 2008 to 19.3% in 2013.
The industry-average ARPU level will stabilize from 2009 to 2013
Our model predicts that, on average, ARPUs in South Korea will remain
stable with monthly ARPU level of around 40,000 won over the next five
years.
We expect that SK Telecom will continue to enjoy the highest level of
ARPU in South Korea with monthly ARPU of 42,024 won in 2013.
Monthly ARPU levels at KTF and LG Telecom will be 40,039 won and
30,895 won respectively in 2013, according to our model.
EBITDA margins will improve at KTF and LG Telecom over the next five
years
We forecast that the industry average EBITDA margin (calculated as
EBITDA/reported revenue) will decline from 25.6% in 2008 to 22.7% in
2013.
SK Telecom will continue to enjoy the highest level of profitability
in South Korea's mobile operator space. However, we expect that SK
Telecom's EBITDA margin will fall from 34.3% in 2008 to 27.5% in 2013.
On the other hand, we expect that KTF's EBITDA margin will improve
from 18.8% in 2008 to 20.0% in 2013. We also predict that LG Telecom's
EBITDA margin will improve slightly from 16.2% in 2008 to 16.4% in
2013.
