The Government of Vietnam has taken unprecedented steps in the past few
years to modernize and reform the higher education system in Vietnam.
H.E. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education and
Training, is leading a high level delegation including top ranking
officials from the Ministry of Education and Training, representatives
from more than 40 universities and several Vietnamese businesses
investing in education in Vietnam to attend the Higher Education Forum,
a centerpiece of the Meet Vietnam Program. Priority goals of the
Ministry of Education and Training to be discussed include the
development of 23 Advanced Programs and establishment of an
American-style university in Vietnam.
Selected colleges and universities will be invited to
participate in this highly focused seminar and matchmaking forum
organized in cooperation with the California Education and Training
Export Consortium (ETEC). A primary objective of this special event is
to match specific Vietnamese academic and vocational training needs with
U.S. institutional capacity and related faculty expertise. The Vietnam
Higher Education Reform Act (for the period of 2006-2020) places
paramount emphasis on institutionalizing cooperation among U.S. and
Vietnam universities.
Announced collaboration opportunities include:
Support of a world class research institution to be based at Can Tho
University.
Development of a Vietnam PH.D. Scholarship Program that aims at
sending 10,000 candidates to the U.S. through 2020.
Paid faculty exchange and curriculum development.
Cooperation to establish high quality Vocational Training programs in
Vietnam.
A success story of university cooperation will be reviewed,
including a presentation from a U.S. university representative who will
provide step-by-step analysis of how a college or university can
establish a productive collaboration in Vietnam.
More than 40 Vietnamese universities are expected to participate and be
available for post-event one-on-one breakout sessions.
